Chemistry: Reactions and Ratios; Atomic & Molecular Structures
(1.0 Life/ Physical Science Credit)
FEE: $95
COMPONENT ONE: Reactions and Ratios
INSTRUCTOR: Professor Dorian Canelas
SPHONSOR-HOST: Duke University
DESCRIPTION: This is an introductory course for students with limited background in chemistry; basic concepts involved in chemical reactions, stoichiometry, the periodic table, periodic trends and chemical problem solving will be emphasized with the goal of preparing students for further study in chemistry as needed for many science, health, and policy professions. Chemistry is the branch of science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed; the investigation of their properties and the ways in which they interact, combine, and change; and the use of these processes to form new substances.
COMPONENT TWO: Atomic and Molecular Structures
DESCRIPTION: This is an introductory course for students with limited background in chemistry; basic concepts such as atomic and molecular structure, solutions, phases of matter, and quantitative problem solving will be emphasized with the goal of preparing students for further study in chemistry.
