A Monthly Discovery & Creativity Kit for Grades PreK - 8th

Hands-on learning through nature and self-sufficiency provides opportunities for students to develop important scientific inquiry skills, such as observation, exploration, and experimentation while developing skills in self-sufficiency such as food preservation, renewable energy designs and economics.  Each kit also integrates projects for self-expression and artistic creativity.  Connecting with nature fosters emotional well-being, physical health, and environmental stewardship while creative projects encourage students to express ideas which strengthens self-esteem.

Here are a few ways we integrate subjects for students covering the full month: 
  1. Science: Outdoor exploration and hands-on experiments that teach scientific concepts such as ecosystems, biodiversity, and the water cycle. Growing plants and also observing plants, animals, and natural phenomena in their habitats provides concrete examples for understanding scientific principles.  Preserving foods and smart care projects for the environment.
  2. Language Arts: Provide literature with nature themes, such as books about wildlife, environmental issues, or outdoor adventures. Writing activities include nature journals and creative stories set in natural settings.  Upcycled books are also given new life and shared with students.
  3. Mathematics: Nature provides countless opportunities for math activities, such as measuring tree heights, graphing weather patterns and exploring geometric shapes and patterns found in nature.  Also includes the economics of running a small produce stand as an example.
  4. Art: Use nature as inspiration for artistic expression through activities like nature sketching and creating mixed media artwork by combining nature findings with traditional and upcycled art materials.
  5. Lessons in Social Studies, Technology and PE-Health.  Each kit is different!
